2011 Mahindra SUV W201 Review
The name Mahindra & Mahindra is reckoned with respect in the automobile market. After being India’s primary maker of Sports Utility Vehicles or SUV’s, the Indian auto giant is now set to spread its wings in the International car market.
The first initiative taken by the company towards going international is the launch of the Mahindra World SUV W201.The launch date of the SUV which was initially set to be in between April- May of 2011 has been delayed till August.
Initially the W201 was rendered as an improved substitute for the Scorpio SUV which was the body-on-frame replica of the US-based Mahindra TR20 and TR40. From various sources it is clear that the W201 will be much more in terms of luxury than the standards of US bound Scorpio and TR. The Mahindra SUV is believed to have a unitized construction and a transverse engine layout.
Features Of Mahindra SUV W201
The Mahindra W201 has been imparted with some excellent features to ensure the comfort and the convenience of the passengers travelling in it. Some of the features which have been previewed by car experts are as follows-
Mahindra SUV W201 Size And Design
The first most apparent thing that is clear is that the SUV 201 model is much larger than the earlier Xylo and Scorpio, previous cars by Mahindra. This can be deduced from the SUV sport car’s large design curves which are obvious from beneath the wrappings along with the large headlights.
The headlights are next to Mahindra Company’s seven-slat grill in terms of size. Planning to compete with the likes of the popular Honda CR-V and Chevrolet Captiva as well as the newly launched Aria crossover by Tata, the Mahindra SUV W201 is set to become the original global model that has been constructed on a platform that is called monocoque.
This is going to be the first of its kind for the automobile company itself. The bearing of the W201 as can be understood from under the wraps looks muscular. With such a large size it should be able to match the construction of Chevy Captiva with respect to size. The intentions of the Automobile giant get ascertained by the fact that it has also been testing the Captiva together with the W201 too.
The back side of the World SUV has much similarity with an MPV rather than that of a SUV. This can be ascertained from the fact that at first glance it appears that no fresh extension has been added backwards from rear window.
This is possibly the reason why Mahindra & Mahindra, the Indian car giant, has been seen testing the W201 alongside Toyota Innova carrying a 17-inch alloy with it. News coming in from various sources have confirmed that the company is planning to launch the front-wheel-drive versions first and then based on the response from the market will introduce the all wheel drive versions at a later stage.
The SUV W201 has been built on a monocoque chassis and is fitted with tires called Elanzo 235/55R17 from the JK group. Powered by the V6 engine, the car is set to make the strong facade on roads.
A number of other features will add up to its remarkable features and that includes tilt steering, leather seats, bumpers of body color, electric seat adjustment, sunroof, rear seats of folding variety, auto wiper as well as automated headlamp. The side mirrors of the model have turn indicators fixed in them.
Engine Of Mahindra SUV W201
No change is expected in its power engine forms. The giant monster is reported to derive its power requirements from the company’s own factory made 2.2Litre mHawk CRDi variety of engine that is mated to a five speed manual transmission.

In justification of its SUV tag, the all wheel drive version of Mahindra W201 will be provided with a Borg-Warner on-demand 4×4 system to take care of restrained off-roading. Unconfirmed reports also suggest that Mahindra has been also researching the performance of a 3-litre diesel engine offering 180 bhp for the new W 201 SUV. It is not sure when the company plans to launch the diesel variety.
Interiors Of Mahindra SUV W201
Looking at the giant size it is but obvious that the interiors will be much spacious than its earlier car versions with sufficient leg room for rear back passengers. It has a seating capacity of 7 people and the interiors have been tastefully designed keeping in mind the standards that it has to compete when launched in the foreign countries.
